San Felices again had a leading role during the War of Independence and after numerous clashes, March 15, 1809 the town was taken by the French army and remained occupied for nearly three years. As a result the war left the destruction of the Convent of San Juan de Letran and partial ruin of several churches, but added an important piece of architecture, The French Bridge on the River Agueda.
