The Fortress, with imposing keep, is the best knowlandmark of the entire Villa. The original tower was demolished and rebuilt in the mid-fourteenth century, the castle became the palatial residence. The tower is surrounded by another wall with battlements as a second defense raised in its robust current configuration of the fifteenth century, its height divided into three floors or grounds with heavy rafters, plus another on the lower dome which was slightly higher than the level of the plaza. Under this vault was the compartment that served as a powder keg, and under this warehouse the concave of the tower was divided in two partitions, one for an underground dungeon and one for tank or cistern, where rain water was stored from the square and walls, poured through stone gutters built for this purpose. The tower had also hidden underground outlets. The whisk checkpoints on their foreheads, from which you can enjoy a wide panoramic and the series of windows, some of which are of indisputable elegance, make the tower one of the best examples of the palace, half castle half fortress. The Castle Walls were originally a primitive fence, or old fence during the tenth century, being reinforced after its conquest in the late thirteenth century by King Don Dionis, exterior rear edges to conform to profile five walled enclosures. It was not until the seventeenth century when today's bastions were built. This enclosure, or hardening bastion, is a transition on the walls, such cases are rare and make all this together, if possible, even more special. Today one can still see some paintings, gates and towers, such as the ”Arco del Puerto” (Arch of the Port) and the Bell Tower. We emphasize this bell tower, as it is one of the main and unique buildings of the town. It is square, stands by solid blocks of granite and is surmounted by a belfry covered with wood and tile structure. Through its arches, of transition to Gothic, one could exit the fortress. Built in the thirteenth century and believed to be exempt bulrush as the belfry of the old Romanesque church, now “Nuestra Señora Entre Dos Álamos”.

The Historical Hall of San Felices is installed inside the recently restored Castle Tower of Homage. It displays a graphic and entertaining historical evolution of the monument, recounting the main events that lived through the castle and the town of San Felices, in relation to their border clashes. It offers a journey marked by the most interesting elements of the Walls of town. The means used are illustrative posters (construction, features, models...), chronology, panels, drawings, interactive elements, reproductions of weapons of the time... The objects of the exhibition may be used by visitors. The classroom is divided into three floors that fill the interior of the tower, which is accessed by following the peculiar stone staircase, original of the castle. One may enjoy the view from the terrace of the castle fortified enclosures, and the basement, where we can recognize the old cistern, storage and dungeon of the tower. The upper floors are devoted to the evolution of military architecture and history of the fort itself, from the origin to the Middle Ages, the struggle between the kingdoms of Leon and the Islamic lands, to the struggles on the border with Portugal Modern Age and the abandonment of the defensive functions. On the ground floor visitors can find information about the village, the place occupied in the history of the border, its monuments, festivals... and a small point of sale of objects related to the Route of the Frontier Fortifications.
